Visitors' Information

The oldest government-run sea club here is the Kuwait Sea Sports Club in Ras Al-Salmiya. It has facilities for all major sea sports, as well as a bowling alley, tennis courts, table tennis, two swimming pools, and a restaurant.

A place for enjoyable family entertainment in summer months only is the Aqua Park, along the same stretch of coast between Kuwait Towers and Salmiya. This has a number of water slides of varying degrees of steepness, for both adults and children.

In the late 1970s, a group of dedicated sailors banded together to pursue their love of the sea and sailing in the sunny climes of Kuwait. Now they have over a hundred members and a very active organization that welcomes anyone interested, novices as well as experienced sailors. They sail boats of 24 feet and longer on offshore trips, often on Thursday afternoons and Fridays. Visitors are welcome to show up at the Shaab Marina next to the tourist information center on Gulf Road.

KOSA also offers offshore training courses of various types,

racing, cruising, and a full social calendar. They have open meetings at Messila Beach on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. with talks and presentations.

Sharq Fishing Pier

Some rented motorboats come equipped with fishing gear. All fishermen here say you miss a spectacular part of the uniqueness of Kuwait if you don’t try it. Sport fishermen make their opening cast as night eases into dawn, then wait in the stillness for their lines to signal the arrival of feeding fish. They do not have to wait long, for there are fish in abundance of almost every conceivable size and shape in the waters of Kuwait.

It is perfectly possible in your first half a dozen casts to pull in six different kinds of fish. The range includes barracuda, six kinds of shark, stinging and

non-stinging rays, zebra-striped and other sole, many varieties of bream, grunts, snappers, rock, guitar and catfish, mackerel, tuna, flounder, and needlefish — not to mention the two favorite Kuwaiti fish, hamour (grouper) and zubeidi (pomfret).
